Across from Vail Village and Lionshead lies the quiet neighborhood of Potato Patch. The neighborhood receives its namesake from the potato farms of the early to mid 1900’s. Farms and ranch could be found throughout the Vail Valley in areas such as the Brush Creek and Gypsum Creek Valleys. Today, Potato Patch is a place where a few lucky homeowners can feel at home.

Potato Patch is best known for its panoramic views of Vail Mountain and its snow glistening ski slopes. Since the homes are situated high on a mountain, sunshine fills these homes almost all day and all year. As you drive up the switchbacks to your home you get the feeling this neighborhood offers true mountain living. The drive is certainly worth it due to the simply breathtaking views and quiet mountain atmosphere.

The Great Outdoors...

Another exciting feature to Potato Patch is how close you are to enjoying nature and Vail’s many mountain trails. As you approach the entrance to Potato Patch, you will see an area for cars to park to enjoy a hike on the nearby trail. If you continue up the hill, you will come across a dirt road which will take you to Lost Lake and Piney Lake. As you veer off to the left to take a ride to both lakes, you will see hikers, bikers, jeeps, horseback riders and other motorized vehicles, taking in the majestic beauty of the Rocky Mountain wilderness. You may also see a variety of wildlife including deer, elk, and marmots. An occasional moose may even wander by! If you are in mood to explore, there are 4 wheel drive roads that will take you through the Red and White Mountains and to Muddy Pass. In the winter time, this is a popular place for snowshoeing and snowmobiling.
